Midwives were telling us about somebody calling their baby Tinkerbell, but never told us the sex, I haven't quite got the vision of a hulking man named Tinkerbell robbing a bank.... I can see the headlines in the papers...

Sounds like a power problem, if it takes longer to start up each time with long periods between use (ie the machine is cool each time) i'd hazard a guess at a bad capacitor (see if you can see any leaking, bulging or otherwise odd) or a some bad solder where a component is slowly lifting off over time. If it is something to do with the computer being hot, it may well be the soldering issue, but around a hot component that expands.
